Bradley Cooper's spy thriller 'Dark Invasion' to be written by 'Sons of Anarchy' star Taylor Sheridan

By Jeff Sneider

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Warner Bros. has hired actor-turned-screenwriter Taylor Sheridan to adapt Howard Blum's upcoming nonfiction book "Dark Invasion" for Bradley Cooper's 22nd & Indiana banner and John Lesher's Le Grisbi Productions, TheWrap has learned.

A true spy thriller set in 1915, "Dark Invasion" finds Germany sending their Secret Service to the U.S. to wage a covert war to keep America from helping the Allies. They bomb factories and the U.S. Capitol building, sabotage ships, set up an anthrax lab several miles from the White House and shoot JP Morgan Jr., who helped finance the Allies.

Blum's book follows Tom Tunney, a NYPD captain tasked with recruiting the team that will bring the German spies to justice. Blum's book reportedly claims that the CIA considers Tunney the first head of homeland security.

Cooper and Lesher will produce with Adam Kassan.

Crown/Random will publish "Dark Invasion" on September 11, a significant date since the book concerns what are considered to be the first attacks on U.S. soil since its formative years.

CAA and Janklow & Nesbit brokered the lucrative deal for movie rights back in January.

Sheridan, who starred on "Sons of Anarchy" and had a recurring role on "Veronica Mars," has recently been making a name for himself as an in-demand screenwriter.

His crime drama "Comancheria" was voted to the 2012 Black List and is in development at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Peter Berg's Film 44, which is also working with 20th Century Fox Television to develop Sheridan's Greek God action drama "Olympus."

Sheridan is represented by the Gersh Agency, Elevate Entertainment and attorney Neil Meyer.
